A Green New Deal would put jobs first
Robert Hockett is correct that it is better to spend a large amount on a Green New Deal sooner rather than a crippling amount later as the damage caused by climate change worsens (February 4). But to ensure the necessary political support for such huge expenditure, the social and community advantages of such a programme must also be made clear. The US Green New Deal has at its heart making every residential and industrial building energy efficient. Given there are around 140m residential buildings alone in the US this by definition means jobs in every district in the country. Such a Green New Deal should be the cornerstone of the Democrats’ attempt to beat Donald Trump in 2020.
